Dads and Daughters

Image
Someone on a forum that I frequent posted a link to this article and it's simply the most heart warming thing. The possible relationship between a Father and Daughter is so precious. All the possibilities of fun, trust, idolizing, respect and Love. (clicky on link below) 50 Rules for Dads of Daughters As I read it, I found myself wishing I had a closer relationship with my Dad as I was growing up. I remember him saying (later to me as a young adult) that he never really thought he was meant to be a Father. I felt sad for him and myself and I understood what he was saying. He just wasn't very emotionally open and present which was confusing for me when I saw other friends and their relationships with their Dads.  I see Cowboy and Izzy and it's so fulfilling to watch them play or just walk around together.

I've never been a big 'fancy purse' girl. I usually just buy a bag I like and use it until it's beat up and get a new one. I like purses, I've just never deemed that one of my indulgences to spend money on. Well, now that I'm carrying a diaper bag around with me all weekend and on trips in the weeknight evenings, I'm finding myself longingly staring at nicer diaper bags. I've had 2 so far. The first was a solid enough one, or so I thought. It was only about $40 but started falling apart after about 6 months so I invested in a better one by The Bumble Collection which was on sale. To be perfectly honest, I've side eyed women who spend a bunch of money on diaper bags because I just didn't see it as being worth it but I  get it now. I mean, you're a Mom, you're lugging around a ton of stuff and not usually feeling the most fixed up so a purty accessory like this which is also functional really puts a pep in your step. Well, I've been ...

Normalcy, be mine

Ok. Move is done. We're settled in enough that it looks and feels like a home. I'm well into the 2nd trimester of this pregnancy and so far ((knocking on desk)) this week is gifting me with no headaches. I had some doozies last week that left me down right incapacitated. I'd never really gotten them that bad before so it threw me for a curve. I mentioned the headaches to the Dr. yesterday and she shrugged it off as a normal pregnancy thing since my blood pressure looked good and my diet hadn't really changed. Ah well. Speaking of my appointment yesterday, everything looked good. It was my 16 week check up. The little Rodeo Clown in mah uterus had a good strong heartbeat and gave us some good kicks.  When they weighed me, they noted that I'd only gained a pound so far this pregnancy. I asked the Dr. to look back at my charts to see how my weight looked compared to last pregnancy. Last time around, I had gained about 5 lbs by now, BUT I had started out 10 lbs ligh...

The Truth About Parenting

Image
Ok, so still relatively a Rookie in the grand scheme of things, regarding parenting, but man is it a job! It's a joy, a job and right when you start feeling like you've got it down pat, you're knocked into Rookie mode again. At least I am.  I read this great article that I saw a friend post on Facebook yesterday and found it thoroughly entertaining and it totally rang true as I read it.  30 Practical Tips About The Horrors of Raising a Baby that You Will Never Learn From TV or Movies This blurb in particular hit home w/me: 9. It doesn’t matter how much you love your significant other, or how much he or she loves you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never had an argument in your life. You will argue when you have a baby. You are tired. You are thin-skinned. Everything will set you off. You will assign blame to your significant other for everything, because assigning blame absolves you of it. But rest assured, whatever it was, it was your fault.  Seriously.  I k...

Viernes, y'all!

I really need to wait until I'm at least towards the end of 2nd tri to start shopping for little boy stuff, right? I'm so excited about the possible prospect of having a little Cowboy Jr. join our family that I'm now wanting to get him his little outfits. Looks like the cute little yellow polka dot tie that I got for Joonbug when she was in utero (and didn't know if she was a she or what) is going to be perfect for him! Ugh, is he a he, for realsies or was the Dr.'s guess wrong? We'll find out on May 24th at our more in-depth ultrasound. We upgraded our gym membership so that we can now be members at the new club in our new 'hood. it's a pinch more expensive but it's a super nice shiny new club so now I can no longer claim to be a victim of chub and I will have to proactively do something. Time to drop it like it's hot in sets of 20, maybe 3 reps? I've been able to not put on much weight at all so far but that's just likely because a lo...

Calm after the storm. Ahhhhhh.....

Well, all has begun to settle down from the twister that was our move last week. All being said and done, it went a LOT smoother than I had imagined. We put in our batteries and got 'er done pretty efficiently. We started taking boxes over on closing day (last Wednesday) and kept making trips over with the help of friends and family going in shifts.  Izzy's room was painted on Friday night and it looks awesome!  Cowboy still needs to put the chair rail in that room but it'll happen here soon.  Now we just need to plan out the work to be done on the house. More specifically, the extra bedroom and bathroom construction in the basement.  Yay projects! I'm giving us a rest for a bit but am itching to get some more paint on the walls.  I've missed having our chosen colors on our walls.  I think I'm going to give red a rest for the bedroom. As much as I love a red bedroom, our bedroom is pretty large now and that'd take a lot of work.  Now we pl...

It's moving week!!!111one!!!

We've gotten a lot of packing done in the last week and it's looking like we're going to be ok to get everything moved over. Between 'Lisey and Double-A helping make some runs this week, we should just have the big pieces of furniture left to move on Saturday. Painting of Izzy's room should get done Friday evening (thankfully, Cowboy didn't flinch much at this. he knows how much color on walls means to me).  We go to closing tomorrow morning and then the action goes into overdrive. wooo! In the meantime, moving week blows! Things are in boxes and we're realizing that we pre-maturely packed some things that we still needed.  Cowboy got cancel happy and shut off cable yesterday. Gah! How are we to procrastinate now?!? An update on the lil one chilling in my deluxe uterine lounge: We had our NT scan (1st trimester screening) last Thursday and everything looks great. We got the call today that our chances of lil one having Down Syndrome are about 1 in...
