The cocktail only gets stronger... Maybe straight Bourbon?

Well, our little Izzy got very sick this week with her temperature peaking at 104.4 last night (after 2 nights in a row of high fevers). Cue the panic in her parents... We gave her a tepid bath, gave her Tylenol and took turns holding our little furnace and she finally cooled down a few degrees but man it was touch and go there for a while. We were one foot out the door to get her to the ER but luckily the on-call Dr. was very helpful and sympathetic every time we spoke. This morning, (after a night of 3 crying wakings, bottles, administration of medicine and snuggling to sleep) she's good as new and giggling, chasing around the cats and kissing herself in the mirror. Here's hoping she doesn't relapse tonight... On the bright side, she had her 9 month appointment yesterday and her height falls in the 90th percentile and weight is in the 58th percentile. She's stretching out on us. But what if we want her to keep her adorable Buddha belly and chunky legs? Start giving ...

Our life is like a Long Island Iced Tea right now

Our life is like a Long Island Iced Tea right now. You know, it's got all kinds of hard liquor in the mix which mess with your head (unless you're a seasoned lush/veteran and then it's just another flavor in the mix) and after a couple, you have no idea what hit you or what you did last night. We're knocked up, putting an offer on a new home and trying to do our best in raising lil Izzy and not mess her up too much. Check out our little Woodchuck's work on her crib. She wanted it to be more shabby chic... I need to go out and get some fabric today to make a little cover for it to keep our teether from damaging the crib more. Every morning, she's waking up at 5:50'ish and starts calling out to us with these little 'ah? ah? baba? da? daaaaaaaaaaa????'. Finally, when she adds more urgency to her tone, one of us goes in, says good morning and goes to get her bottle. Unfortunately, at that point, she gets desperate to get the heck out of her crib and sh...

Adventures in Hormones and Teething

I'm losing my mind, Peeps. Losing.my.mind. Izzy's top teeth are trying to come in and then the gums just swell right on up over the little budding teeth and then she's in horrible pain again. This morning there was screaming. a lot of it. I tried getting her to nap about an hour and a half after she woke up (6AM is her wake up time these days) and that was the worst thing that anyone has *ever* done to her, apparently. I tried rocking her to sleep, I tried just singing to her and walking around and all of that was still just the worst of the worst. Finally, I gave up. After about 45 minutes of all of this, I gave her some teething tablets (which usually do the trick for her), then put her back down in her crib (which brought about even louder wailing) and got ready for work with a soundtrack of a screaming baby. Then I realized I'd have 2 (possibly) screaming babies here in about 8 months and then I started crying. It was a lovely chorus of screeching and whimpering. I ...

My V'day card to Cowboy

(how great are these?)

Well, we went for the 3rd ultrasound yesterday. In the first, they saw a thickened uterus lining but no baby. In the second, they saw a gestational sac and yolk sac but still no actual baby (ie: fetal pole and heartbeat). Yesterday's ultrasound was nerve wrecking. My nerves have been in total shambles this past week and it's been all I can do to try to focus on what's in front of me and not think of if there's a life growing inside me or not. After hemming and hawing, the ultrasound technician turned on the overhead screen so that Cowboy and I could see what was on her screen. Then she pointed out a tiny flicker in the gestational sac and said "...and there's your baby's heartbeat". O_O My heart was racing and I couldn't stop the tears from falling down my face. This wasn't supposed to happen. This wasn't supposed to be *able* to happen. What happened to the theory of my body being broken and not being able to get pregnant w/out medical in...

Doing the Limbo, yet again.

So, this is my blog and it's where I can look back on and reflect on how things have changed and the fun stuff that's been going on in life as well as the not so fun stuff here and there, right? Only a handful of people see this page and I feel comfortable enough sharing things on here and not worrying about judgement or any of that jazz. So, I'll get to the point. I'm pregnant. As you guys know, my fallopian tubes are what I *thought* was garbage so we were under the impression that the only way we were getting knocked up was via the world of science and medicine (ie: IVF). We have 2 totsicles in a cryogenic lab in Fairfax just waiting for us to give the word and roll the dice with them but we figured we'd wait until Izzy was a year old. Cut to the beginning of January when I decided to stop taking the Lucifer pill because it was making me even more crazy than my normal state of over emotional and sensitive self. Um, I *meant* to make an appointment w/the Dr. to ...

A Break in the Izzy Rainbow for Some Crankiness

Image
If this cat pictured pees on one more thing in this house, I swear I will drop trou and pee on his head.  He's been warned, I said it here and I feel like at this point, I can not be held responsible for my actions if he's not going to be responsible for his bladder. We are done! piss head... Thanks to him our guests have no pillows, sheets or bed to sleep on. piss head pissed all over them and at this point, too many times to actually get the smell out. I can not take the smell of cat piss anymore. Does anyone want him?

Gimme your flashy clicky thingy!

Oh look, she got her hair did

Here's what I got when I picked up Izzy from Meddy's today. Meddy also watches one of Noah's friends in the afternoon (a sweet lil Russian girl named Dunya who's 7 I believe) and she basically adopted Izzy as her little sister. She dotes over here and the feeling is pretty mutual. So, apparently she did her hair yesterday. :)  Here's one after she figured out how to make her singing monkey actually sing. She realized that she is brilliant, of course and clearly this was a very mind blowing realization. And here's one of her after I took the bow out and put PJ's on here: "Tell the truth, guys, I look kinda awesome, don't I?" Now, since you asked, Buggie. :) Jems and I have renewed our weekly cooking challenge that we used to have going on last year. We both have a couple of similar cook books but we also grab recipes off line ( http://www.notakeout.com/ is an awesome one! usually pretty easy recipes and so yummy!). Well, this week, Jems pick...
